Morgan M

I've been to Morgan M a few times since it opened and have always enjoyed the fine, reasonably priced French food on offer there. However it really seems to have stepped up a gear. On a recent visit I had a fantastic meal from their spring menu - each course faultless. Furthermore the room has been redecorated which seems to have improved the atmosphere. The service is friendly, but formal and the waiters offer sound advice on both food and wine. It's not cheap, but is good value and therefore is highly recommended

Patara (Oxford Circus)

I have eaten at Patara on more than eight occasions over the last three years, and each time have had a great evening. The food is uniformly excellent - well sourced ingredients and well spiced without being overpowering. The decor is relaxing and the tables are well spaced. The standard of service is always very high. The cocktails are particularly good. In my opinion Patara is probably the best Thai in its price range in London.

Ottolenghi (Islington)

I have both eaten dinner at Ottolenghi and purchased food to take away on many occasions, and the quality of food is both high and remarkably consistent. The dishes from the kitchen served in the evening are invariably delicious and innovative. The service in the evening is pleasant but slightly chaotic - however this only rarely detracts from the pleasure of the meal.

The Barnsbury

I regularly eat at the Barnsbury and always have an enoyable meal. The food is simple (in a good way), well cooked and well presented and the service usually very reliable. The wines are well chosen and fairly priced. The pub itself is usually satisfyingly full - enough people to create a good atmosphere, but rarely overcrowded. What more could you want from a local?

Marcus Wareing at the Savoy Grill

I was fortunate enough to have had dinner at the Chef's table recently and enjoyed one of the best meals I've ever had. The food is, as other reviews suggest, impeccable although for me the meat and cheese courses stood out. The view from the chefs table is excellent, providing a clear panorama of the 'theatre' that is a busy kitchen. However it was the service that made the evening truly memorable - friendly without being over familiar, efficient and very knowlegeable. A far from cheap evening, of course, but good value nevertheless.
