The Fat Duck

Two months after making our booking, we were madly anticipating our lunch at the Fat Duck, and were not disappointed.

We both had the tasting menu, my friend with the matched wines. While not all dishes were to my liking (particularly disliked the foie gras & pigeon), others were exhilaratingly enjoyable - the green tea nitrogen mousse, the oyster with passionfruit jelly, sardines on toast. My friend enjoyed each of her wines, only not finishing the sake because it was so strong.

The service was phenomenal - friendly and warm. In a 3-star restaurant, this was extremely refreshing. We didn't feel like we should be grateful for being allowed in! When my friend went to the bathroom, it was only 11 seconds before an eagle-eyed waiter was by our table folding her napkin for her. I observed staff discretely scanning our table (in the corner near the window) for any items needing attention each time they passed in our vicinity.

The decor is simple but elegant. The only annoyance is that there is only one bathroom.

A most enjoyable afternoon, and one of the happiest I have spent in London!
