The Ivy

The Ivy.

There are two things that I always heard about The Ivy.

1. "Oh, The Ivy... it's so cool!" (comments generally by readers of the Sun and Daily Sport)

2. "It's a celeb B list chop house!"

The second, I now realise is a comment by people who have never been there.

The food is simple. That is true. What can you expect? It's traditional English food. But, it is, in no way a simple chip shop, chop house! I always had my doubts and the crowd that loves to be seen there is quite a turn-off, but, in the end... it's actually really high quality food. There is always something a bit interesting on the menu mixed in with English working-mans food (although, strangely enough, there aren't that many construction workers inside... maybe a few people that have played construction workers on TV, but wearing more Armani than orange) .

Service and atmosphere is interesting. The staff are quite helpful and personable, the atmosphere is generally the pre/post theatre crowd, so always humming... Overall, it's nice and the price isn't that bad.

So, what can I say?

We went there last night when we were looking for another restaurant that we couldn't find and it turned out to be incredible!

Nessled in amongst some council blocks, you would not expect a bustling restaurant with full wait staff and excelently prepared and presented food, but it is there. The food is wonderful, the staff are incredibly helpful, and they are open quite late.

Recomended to anyone not afraid to try something new and be pleasantly surprised!
