The Ivy

I went to the Ivy for a late lunch on Saturday with my in-laws as a 70th birthday present. I was impressed when you booked they gave you a time slot from 2.30 - 5.15pm so you felt assured they would not be rushing you out for the next diners which happens too often at restaurants these days. In fact, the service was so laid back, we had to ask them to order our sweets as we were at the theatre at 5pm! The restaurant is "cosy" to say the least, we sat on a table of four and had a table of six other diners very close by. Thankfully the diners on the table next to us were non-smokers which sadly was not the case for many of the other tables. I was very shocked the find that there were so many people smoking in the restaurant, something I find unpleasant at the best of times, but completely unacceptable whilst I am eating. This spoiled a very enjoyable lunch, superb and attentive staff (not too pushy) and a lovely ambience in the restaurant. Until a smoking ban is imposed in the restaurant, I would not return, mores the pity.
