We had a very mixed experience when visiting the National Dining Rooms in Trafalgar Square. Although we had booked a table some two weeks in advance, the National Dining Rooms had ommited to tell us that the TV cameras would be filming Celebrity Masterchef on the day of our visit. What a shame. The cameras were shoved in our face from the moment we arrived which really marred the whole experience.
There were three celebrity menus on offer but no vegetarian option was available. The waiter seemed very put out that we wanted to order from the standard menu, rather than the celebrity offering.
The food was acceptable, but nothing of particular note. I think we might have enjoyed the experience more on a normal day when the TV cameras weren't present.
The Dining Rooms enjoy a great central location with pleasant, simple decor. We will visit again, to give the place the benefit of the doubt. Maybe, we are unique in this day and age, not wanting to be filmed while we enjoyed a birthday lunch?
