Osteria Emilia

Having tried for ages even to find out if this place was still open we finally secured a table on a Friday night. I was pleased that we were sat upstairs as the downstairs bit looks too small to function with any atmosphere. The staff were very attentive, although they gave differing accounts of the specials available. Some dishes were good, a couple the rabbit saltimbocca and calves liver were worth going back for. The service was a bit chaotic. My partners main course arrived with our starters, and there was a huge wait for our main courses. Only when I got home did I realise that they had billed us incorrectly, they'd charged us half price for one of their more expensive bottles of red, they'd also billed the same price for their pasta dish regardless of whether it had been been ordered as a starter or main. The error overall was in my favour so I wasn't unhappy. We had a great meal, they just need to get their service up to speed.

Tootsies (Belsize Park)

I shivered my way through lunch last Sunday. Every time the waiting staff opened (and left open) the door to the front terrace the draft whipped across me. Worse, the food was very average. My fishcakes looked and tasted like they had been reheated. What a dingy experience

The Gay Hussar

Bland food, indifferent service, why this place survives is beyond me. The goulash I had was fine, but it's the kind of dish you'd be pleased to get in the canteen at work, not in a restaurant in Soho.

Gaucho (Hampstead)

Have been to the Gaucho 3 times this year, most recently last week. Every time the food, in particular the steak has been fantastic. They also have an amazing selection of Argentinian wine. The only downside is that it does get busy in the evenngs so that some waiting to get seated can happen.

L'Autre Pied

I had an early dinner with some colleagues. We were well looked after. I had read that portions were small but after 3 courses non of us felt underfed. The dishes themselves were superbly construted with a great mix of favours and textures. I'll definitely go back.
