After reading some very good reviews on El Molino, I decided to go there for tapas last Sunday lunchtime. I telephoned first to make sure they were open and serving tapas, which they assured me they were.
I arrived there about 2.30 and went in with my wife. My first impression was that it was not quite what I had expected, a little bit too cafe, with its formica tables and chairs, but nevertheless, I decided to give it a try, and made my way promptly to the bar, which was lined with stools.
A waitress came up to me immediately, and told us that we couldn't sit there, that if we wanted to be served, we had to sit at a table.
I couldn't believe I was hearing this, a Spanish restaurant, with a bar and stools, where clients wasn't allowed to sit?
We didn't want a full meal, all we wanted were some tapas and a bottle of wine, but we were refused service because we wanted to sit at the bar!
I had driven from South London to try this place, and I angrily drove back to south London again, without trying it. I drove to Clapham where Spanish restaurants are real, and comforting, and the staff know how to treat you.

The food in El Faro is very good, but far too expensive. My wife and I had a very small starter each, a bottle of house wine, plus 2 extra glasses as the bar, and we both had steak. The bill, including service, which was already added to it, came to an astonishing £105.00.
There were no free tapas with our drinks at the bar, which all Spanish restaurants normally offer, and no complimentary drink at the end of the meal either, which at that price, I would have appreciated.
The staff and service were very good, but the place lacked atmosphere. There was no lively chatter and buzz, just very stilted conversation coming from the other nearby tables.
A little Spanish music wouldn't have gone amiss either, instead of the boring pop stuff which sounded more suitable coming from a teenager's clothes shop.
