We ate the best meal we have eaten for a very long time at Le Chardon last night, encountering none of the service problems experienced by others on this site. The food was absolutely first class: creamy rock oysters, quivering atop their seaweed bed, served with a sharp tarragon vinegar and bread & butter. Dark-brown pheasant stew was gamey and warming; monkfish in curried mussel sauce (more subtle than it sounds) was a plateful of exciting flavours; glorious duphinoise and vegetables drenched in very garlicky butter added a homely touch. The service was brisk but cordial and the decor impressive. We will certainly be returning to Le Chardon soon.
