Ca Phe (Islington)

Excellent bahn-mi (baguettes) I had the bbq per for not much more than a packet sandwich at m&s. When they ask if you want pate if you want it spicy, say yes. Fantastic vietnamese coffee too. Really friendly staff too, just wish I worked round here so I could visit more often.

Les Deux Salons

Had a great meal last night, amazing bavette cooked absolutely perfectly and very well priced too, and a fantastic fish soup to start with. Other members of our party had the calves liver and rabbit amongst other things, all of which were great. Really good wine at very reasonable prices too.

Now the bad, the service was patchy and as other reviewers have mentioned the check in/cloakroom combo is a bit of a farce.

Generally, very good though and there's no doubt we'll be back.

Carluccio's (Covent Garden)

The most TERRIBLE service and restaurant experience I have ever encountered because of the following things:

1. The waiter did not understand our order and therefore when I was eating my main meal my husband was eating nothing because he had eaten his main meal when I was eating my starter.

2. I had to wait about 30 mins for main meal after my starter.

3. By the time I had finished my main meal I was quite angry and could not have the (esspresso) drink as part of the set menu. They over charged me even though I clearly stated that I had wanted the set menu.

4. They forgot one part of the starter so the waiter had to give me the money back in coins.

5. No acknowledgement that the service I got was absolutely appalling.

DON'T EVER GO HERE unless you want a terrible time!

Buen Ayre

Fantastic steak and enormous portions, don't even think about ordering chips, unless it's one portion between three, you just won't need them. The meat was terrific, the service less so, given that all we were eating was steak there was no real excuse to have to wait almost 45 minutes to get our food, unless they simply wanted to sell more wine, or is that just me being cynical?

All in all, if you want great steak and aren't bothered about price or service, then go here, if not don't.

The Grand Union (Kennington)

This is a bar that specializes in burgers, that's pretty much all there is on the menu other than sides and salads, but this really isn't a problem as the burgers are fantastic. They have a huge range from a standard classic burger to falafel burgers, I had a regular burger with bacon and cheese and it was one of the best I've had, really good fries and excellent onion rings. The service was friendly efficient and friendly, and it was pretty good value, particularly compared to some of the bigger 'posh burger' chains. My only real complaint would be that the fries were a bit too salty, and the drinks were more pricey than other pubs in the area.

All in all a really good place, if I want a burger I know where I'll be going.

The Depot

We visited The Depot last night for my mother's birthday. We were seated at a table with great views of the river and had a fantastic meal, the menu was varied and everything sounded delicious, between the five of us we sampled quite a variety of the dishes, I had a truly memorable salmon sashimi followed by swordfish with crab and brown shrimp sauce. Others in the party had the duck salad, calves liver, sea bream and lamb amongst their dishes, all of which were delicious. The service was just right, attentive without being intrusive. We'll definitely be coming again.

Wright Brothers Oyster & Porter House

Just got in from a fantastic night at Wright Brothers, great food, great service and great atmosphere..

We started with a dozen oysters (6 Duchy of Cornwall as we used to have holidays opposite their oyster farm) and a selection of others featuring a pair each of three different varities, all were delicious and all were different, then we had some of the lightest most mouthmelting squid I've ever experienced and some delicious baked scallops. All this was washed down with a good muscadet. At the end we couldn't resist ordering another half dozen oysters instead of a desert.

The service was great, relaxed, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without being in anyway pushy. It was a busy saturday night and yet we got the feeling we could relax and take our time and linger over our last glasses of wine.

Pretty much as soon as we sat down we'd decided it would be a regular haunt, and it certainly will be, I can't wait to go back..
