Atrium

I was quite disappointed with Atrium. It's a lovely setting and has a decent wine list. The service is decent but slower that you would want - especially as lunchtime when no one is there for a 2 hour + lunch which I had. Better service would have reduced it by a good half hour.

The set menu seems decent value but the soup on offer was mediocre and pretty tasteless whilst the lamb was undercooked and had way too much fat.

I had beef off the a la carte and asked for it medium-rare, it came at something approaching medium-well which you don't expect from a restaurant like this. The accompanying vegetables were nice but the potato was very dry. For £18 it should have been far far better.

The whole bill came to £70 with service - inc 2 courses and coffee. It was reasonable but if it had been social and not business, I would definitely have sent the steak make and would have been pretty annoyed at the lack of value for money.

La Figa

The service here is excellent, the decor is lovely too. We went on a weeknight so it wasn't full but it still held a decent atmosphere so on a weekend I'm sure it's excellent.

The portions are huge and excellent value for money - I'm a 23 year old man and could barely finish my lasagne. The food is very good and I would happily return - it gets a 6 but I'll add another on for the portions!

Quaglino's

I took my girlfriend to Quaglinos as a surprise and we were both delighted. How anyone can complain about the service I'm not sure. We were treated really well and given excellent advice on both food and wine.

We enjoyed the oysters to start buy my steak was ever so slightly overdone from the medium rare I asked for. This is a far from rare (excuse the pun) occurrence though - English restaurants always seem to err on the side of well done but I was slightly surprised that a restaurant with a reputation like Quaglinos gave me a steak that was more like medium.

My girlfriend really enjoyed her scallops though and the desserts were excellent.

The atmosphere is wonderful, the service is a perfect balance of politeness and restraint and whilst the food doesn't quite match up to the rest of the experience, it is still good by any standard. I would say probably go for the seafood - they seem to do that very well.

Feng Sushi (Borough Market)

I've been to Feng Sushi a couple of times - it's wonderful on a warm evening as you feel like you're spilling out onto Stoney Street along with the drinkers at the nearby pubs.

The atmosphere and decor are excellent and the service is fine - although it's certainly not good and I can see where a couple of the more negative reviews came from.

The sushi is very good too, although the maki can be a little dry. The bento boxes are excellent value although the selections are a bit odd and could do with being changed around a little.

If you want better sushi at better prices head to Pham Sushi near Old Street but if you are out with a few friends on a Friday evening then this is a great place to be, especially when it's warm outside and they don't have to bring the rather oppressive shutters down.

Pham Sushi

Don't be fooled by the decor or the slightly stilted atmosphere, this place does the best sushi I've had in London at excellent prices. Family run with all the sushi prepared just behind a small counter you'll get an excellent meal. I'm a huge fan of Maki rolls and they were exquisite whilst my girlfriend ate Nigiri and sashimi and couldn't speak highly enough of that either. The specials coming out of the kitchen looked fantastic so we will be a bit more adventurous next time so if you're a sushi fan then make sure you pay Pham Sushi a visit.
