Tom's Kitchen

went here last night with some friends to celebrate my birthday. Lively buzzing place. Our waitress was delightful, very helpful, knowledgeable too. There was a good choice on the menu, I chose scallops, sea bass and profiterles, all delicious. The only criticism was a bit of delay between starter and main, but they were very apologetic, and it wasn't irritatingly long. I would highly recommend, and definitely go again.

Launceston Place

visited this restaurant to celebrate a friends birthday. Excellent restaurant. I chose scallops, followed by roast cod. Both were well cooked. Followed by apple tart. I can highly recommend this restaurant, but it is expensive. The only issue we had, was the men in the group chose the lamb. This dish although tasty, was such a small portion none of us could believe it. I would recommend, but be careful of the portion size, worked out to £96 per head including wine.

Four o nine

Had a very nice Sunday lunch here today to celebrate a friend's birthday. I opted for the roast beef and all the trimmings, and strawberry mille feulle (spelling), which included pistaschio and black pepper. Both were very nice. Service was good, and good value. BUT, apart from my party of 6, it was empty which did not help the atmosphere. don't understand why it was empty because I thoroughly enjoyed it. With wine worked out to £55 per head, which I think was perfectly acceptable.

101 Pimlico Road

Went here on Saturday night with friends to celebrate my birthday. Excellent meal. I had baby octopus, which I was a bit dubious about, but was really nice, followed by roast halibut in a broth, which was delicious, followed by white chocolate and raspberry cheese cake, yummy.

I have 1 issue though. Our table was booked for 8.30. When waiter came to take our order we were told that the starter and main which I was going to order were not available. Fair enough, but 2 of us had the last 2 halibut, and we also had the last 2 cheesecake. Now I understand that restaurants do not want to over order, but it is quite a small menu, and to find that 4 dishes were virtually finished makes it a very limited choice. My order was taken first, otherwise I may not have been able to have any of my first, or possibly even second choices for every course.

The bill worked out at £80 per head, which considering we all had 3 courses, 3 bottles of wine, and liqueurs and coffee was reasonable. I would certainly recommend, but maybe go earlier than 8.30!!!

Oriel

I am very sad to say, this restaurant is closing in February after many years. This is just the latest in a number of long serving restaurants which have been forced to close because landlords are increasing the rents so much, that it forces closure. This is out and out greed, and I think it is so the premises can be refurbished and then even more rents can be charged. Other restaurants this has already happened to in this are Chelsea Kitchen, although I am pleased to see this has opened again in Fulham Road, and Flamenco, a spanish restaurant in Pimlico Road, which ran for over 25 years, but again forced to close due to exhorbitant rent increases. All these premises are owned by VERY rich landlords

Kyms

Used to go this restaurant regularly a few years ago, but haven't been for quite a while. Meeting up with an old friend we decided to re visit here for lunch on Monday. What a disappointment. Everything was mediocre, but the duck with pancakes was truly atrocious, dry, must have been hanging a round all morning. Service was ok and food was hot, but I sadly cannot recommend this restaurant any more. Also it was freezing in there, and couldn't understand the explanation for it

Wild Honey

Visited this restaurant last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Because I am disabled I sit very low at the table so asked for a cushion, I was very impressed as they went to another restaurant to borrow a couple for me, that deserves 10 points on it's own. I wasn't too sure about the menu as nothing jumped out at me, so plumped for pork belly with hertfordshire snails which was delicious, pork was so moist and tasty. I then had cod with gnocci. It looked very white on the plate so not sure I had picked correctly, but the flavour of the seafood vinigrette came through, and I did enjoy it, not sure i would have again. dessert was custard tart with persimon which is a tangy orange jelly. Overall a lovely restaurant and would certainly go again

The Ivy

i went to the Ivy for lunch yesterday to meet up with friends who have never been before. i Have never had a bad experience. Food, service excellent as usual. Were not kept waiting or forgotten, had excellent seats, and bill very reasonable. All my friends thoroughly enjoyed it and were impressed. I have lost count of the number of times I have been, and will certainly be going again. My only criticism is trying to book a table, which is ridiculously difficult
