What a fantastic restaurant. My wife and I ate at Tamarai last Saturday evening and we both agreed that it was possibly the best meal we've eaten in a restaurant in the UK.
The chef is quite simply a genius! The menu is simple but beautifully put together. We started with a slection of "small platters" comprising duck spring rolls, dim sum, seared scallops and caramelised prawns. All were an amazing fusion of tastes and textures with the dim sum and the prawns being exceptional.
Next came an exquisite beef salad and a wonderful lobster salad - both worthy of the utmost praise. We also shared a bowl of the most wonderful chicken soup.
For main courses we opted to stay with fish and shared a lightly curried sea bass and a baby barramundi that just melted in the mouth.
Just about having room for dessert my wife chose the five spice chocolate mousse - given the tiny spoonful I was allowed to remove from her plate I have to assume that it more then met with her approval! I had the Tamarai ice cream and was treated to three bowls of the most subtlely flavoured ice cream I have ever had.
The staff were courteous, knowledgable and attentive throughout our visit - a credit to the restaurant.
We took advantage for the "2 for 1" deal currently running and thus found the meal excellent value. However the quality was such that paying full price would have been totally acceptable!
We really cannot recommend Tamarai highly enough and will be returning shortly - we've already recommended Tamarai to several of our friends and family.
If there is a better Pan-Asian restaurant in London then I'd be stunned!
