Cafe Anjou

A cheap and cheerful french-style chain. The food is pretty reasonable though would not impress in France. The service is generally awful - the waiting staff change every week and although they are very friendly (not very French) the system they use is slow (very French). If you're not in a hurry or expecting proper french food it's quite pleasant.

Bombay Spice

This is a cut above the 'normal' indian restaurant in the area. It is not the sort of place where you can pile in drunk after the pub closes. The food is generally superb but the chef does have a tendency to cover everything in butter, particularly the nan breads. The service is excellent.

La Paella

This is the only tapas restaurant in the southgate area. The food is generally very good. The service is variable - the proprietor and his wife are actually very friendly but can come across a bit irritable before you get to know them. Best to go on nights when they are not busy (ie. not saturday or friday)

Sargasso

Unless you really do not like seafood this restaurant is superb. Food is amazing, service generally very good. Bit pricey for the area but worth it.
