Le Mercury

My husband and I went to this restaurant last Saturday evening with high expectations, having read excellent reviews about the food. We sat upstairs and enjoyed the candlelit ambience. We couldn't fault the service, but some of the food left a lot to be desired. As a French restaurant, I wasn't expecting much in the way of vegetarian dishes so I opted for the mushroom risotto. I think 'mushroom' was the operative word given that there must only have been one button mushroom sliced up and sprinkled on the otherwise white, basic risotto. After this disappointment, I thought I would make up for it with a dessert and chose the fruit crumble. The word crumble fell short of the mark as the topping was raw, uncooked pastry. Still, the service was efficient and the fries excellent. A non vegetarian might venture back, but I wouldn't.
