The Glasshouse
We went this evening with high expectations and some of these were met. The Brill starter was just that, as was the trifle made with pannetone. However, there was little available for our vegetarian guests, who, had they not been prepared to eat fish would have been without an alternative for the main course. One main, of pork, sausage and apple sauce on a bed of sauerkraut, sounded ideal for a sharp winter evening but instead of being robust and filling was simply odd, and dominated by some over cooked bacon. Unusually rather than pressing on with filling one's wine glass the staff seemed reluctant to follow the guests in the way the wine was consumed. Instead one had to look around for a glass to be filled, ensuring that we only had one bottle for the four of us during the meal. Most annoying though was the way our two separate requests for a jug of tap water were simply ignored.
All in all, simply OK, but one assumes that comparative scarcity of local competition will ensure it a continuing limited level of success
