Tsunami (Clapham)

I agree with so many of the people that have reviewed this restaurant. Great Food and a nice little pricier restaurant to enjoy when you feel like some good Japanese. However the service is appalling. The waiters annoy you to the point of anger when you are still deciding your menu choices. Lets be honest, a menu takes more than 2 minutes to look through especially if you are planning to share courses which often happens when enjoying Japanese. I would have thought that it is obvious that when people are still looking down at their menus they have not decided? Dishes were taken away before they are finished and the staff’s attitudes stunk. There are nicer ways to suggest that there may be a delay in your sushi since there is only one sushi chef. Finally the bill, 12.5% service charge added….. for what?? We got it removed much to their disgust.

Gordon Ramsay's Boxwood Cafe

We recently visited Boxwood as a last dinner with some friends who were leaving the country. They each had never been to a Gordon Ramsay restaurant before so had no prior expectations.

We enjoyed a passionfruit martini at the bar before taking our seats in the main dining room. We perused the tasting menu which to be honest did not entice any of us as much as the a la carte so we all picked a variety of starters & mains. There is a certain expectation you have when visiting one of Gordon's restaurants and although I think the Boxwood is really not quite as good than it's more expensive counterparties; it was still very enjoyable and of a good standard. Our friends felt the same minus the Ramsay expecation. We think the desserts were by far the most memorable. Chocolate fondant, sticky toffee pudding and the donuts which we all sampled all were simply to die for!!

Only picky things really were that we felt the Sommelier was average, she did not display the qualities of someone who's judgement you should be able trust and although we understand it was a freezing outside, the heating was way too high, everyone was red faced around the room and uncomfortably hot.
