Had read good things on this site about Fish Hook. However, to quickly summarise: arrived at five to eight; by twenty past nine we still hadn't had our main course. The starters we had were competent enough but definitely nothing special. The atmosphere was interesting - the restaurant was very busy but also extremely small, so we felt like the two couples on either side of us were listening in to our every word (and we're sure they felt the same!). NOT the place to come if intimate conversation and a modicum of privacy are high on your agenda. There must have been about six inches between my elbow and the guy next to me. Incidentally, although we didn't wait around for the main course, the same guy receieved his and looked round incredulously - his £16 main consisted of what looked like a prawn and some salad. The website was misleading - it bore no resemblance to what was actually presented to us. As I said before, we didn't stay for the main, but when we left (having had a bottle of wine and two starters), our bill was £61. They even had the gall to charge £7 "service". It's possible we might have come on a bad night, but at the end of the day it's only possible to judge a place on what you see, and tonight we did NOT see anything to impress us or compell us to recommend this place to anyone. This is an honest review, not a bitter response to a wasted night, which is what it feels like we had. There is much better value to be had elsewhere. Avoid.
