Leytonstone isn't the most glamorous location but this place is really good! Unlike a lot of Thai restaurants it offers decent value for money and the food itself is very good. The Pad Thai reminds me of those I have had in Bangkok, while the prawns in garlic sauce is a must.

The service can be variable (ie, really poor or good) but it's a small place, and you forget about it once you tuck in.

Matsu used to be a decent resturant a couple of years ago. However it has changed chef and has been pretty average for a year. I went there recently and was delighted to see the menu had changed. However the food was not great. The gyoza dumplings tasted as though they had been deep fried straight from the freezer, while the katsu-don - which was the best in London a couple of years ago - seems to have lost it's edge and become a smaller dish.

Matsu is what I would call somewhere to visit if you want an introduction to Japanese food, but don't expect the real McCoy!

Good things about Misato: the portions are huge; some of the dishes are very tasty (such as chicken teri rice, pork & ginger rice, the ocean perch dish); prices are amazingly good value.

Bad things about Misato: unless you arrive at when the doors open you can expect to queue for 30 minutes minimum; the sushi is so-so; it's not a place for a romantic meal!

Worst thing about Misato: if you have a genuine complaint about food or service - as I did the last time I came here - don't expect the staff to help you. They will adopt the line that there are no managers on site to help, and you end up vowing never to return, which I have not done for some time now. Oddly enough I thought the service was typically unfussy, but the decline in basic service matches what other reviewers have said.

Pham Sushi

Ignore the review by Then. Read the other reviews and make up your own mind. I have been going to Pham Sushi for a couple of years and, in my opinion, it serves the best sushi I have tasted.

New Seoul

Having seen other positive reviews I took my wife here on a Saturday night. We were amazed that the restaurant was not busy and I ordered Bulgogi while my wife ordered a seafood dish served in a hotpot. Unfortunately the Bulgogi did not taste marinaded, just beef served on a sizzling plate with some onions. Worse than this, they cooked a totally different dish to what my wife ordered! This was rectified, but the dish was not worth the wait.

We won't be coming back. This is a shame as the location is good for us.
