The Narrow by Gordon Ramsay

Visited The Narrow on Good Friday to find the place fairly busy, but really badly understaffed so that we had to queue endlessly to place orders or get drinks, and our bar food took a long time to arrive (and when it did the order was wrong).

Overall, good location by the river, very limited bar menu if you don't manage to reserve a dining space, bar food very plain and slightly overpriced, poor service.

Barnes Grill Bar and Restaurant

I have to recommend the weekday lunch here - 3 courses for £14.95 (or 2 for £12.95) is brilliant value for really tasty food and good service, and definitely a cut above a gastropub or chain restaurant experience you could get for similar money.

We visited on the Tuesday after Easter, so actually had the place to ourselves as we missed the Easter weekend rush. Great decor and good background music meant that we didn't feel too conspicuous. The highlight of course was the steak (though more so for the a la carte version than the one on the lunch menu), but a fried haloumi cheese starter and lemon frozen mousse also went down very well.

Overall, maybe slightly overpriced if you're on the a la carte menu, but if you manage to get there on a meal deal then it's really worth a visit.
