Little Bay (Farringdon)

I had been to the sister restaurant on Belsize Road which was a superb experience. So I was looking forward to visiting this restaurant...

I was dissapointed. The interior simply does not compare to the one on Belsize Road. This one was lacking the intimate & cosy atmosphere and there was no quirkyness to the place. My cousin remarked that the painting on the wall plaques was shoddy and looked unfinished.

The bread was inexcusable. It was simply sliced bread from some cheap supermarket loaf and firm butter which couldn't be spread on the bread. Very bad start.

My main was average but I managed to demolish it (I was hungry after all). The beef was perhaps a little firm in places and didn't quite melt in my mouth. The celeriac mash was nice.

So overall, a pretty dissapointing experience really but the concert at the Barbican afterwards made up for it! Value wasn't bad I guess. I would try one of the other Bay restaurants if I were you.

Crazy Bear

I reserved this restaurant for a birthday meal. What can I say...I was thoroughly impressed.

The service was attentive, friendly and efficient. The food was fantastic. We went for the 10 plate tasting menu and everything was wolfed down. The dessert was perhaps on the rich side and quite heavy, but I still managed to fit it in!

The ambience was spot on. The music was appropriate and exactly what I expected from this place...jazzy, full of verve and sophisticated. There was a real buzz that I felt was just right.

The interior is sumptuous and extremely confortable, with lots of dark tones and low lighting.

And the toilets. Well, having read the other reviews, I thought there must have been some degree of exaggeration but one of my friends, having come back from the Gents, just looked stunned and his words were along the lines of "I've not seen anything like it". I have to agree...

The bar downstairs is also impressive with lots of comfy looking sofas, chairs and booths. The drinks and cigar menus are impressive and extensive, though I thought the music was a touch on the loud side.

I will definitely be returning to this place.
