Rosa's (Soho)

Lovely place, liked the fact that they offer fresh spring rolls and laab. we shared the rolls and the thai calamari as a starter - really good, and appreciated fact that the calamari weren't greasy at all, just delicious! As a main I had the soft shell crab salad, a touch too hot for me but very, very nice all the same. I am definitely coming back here.

Went here on Sunday night for my birthday and was expecting good things having read the reviews below. On entering the place, it was all a bit bright lights and quite old skool in terms of decor. Nevertheless we all took to our seats brushing this off. Finally, a waitress to take our drink order. We had to ask for the drinks menu... after 10 mins she returned with the one drinks menu between the 12 of us. No matter, I was convinced it was still going to be a great evening. Despite it being a great time to catch up with mates ... all I can say about the food & service: WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!

The main waiter looked liked he didn't really give a damn... in fact I was concerned that we were really ruining his sunday night - I mean he could be at home vegging in front of the telly or something, Our plates were slammed down & quickly cleared up before everyone had finished. At no point was there any attempt to be friendly or even wish me happy birthday despite cards displayed on the table! Just felt as though they really could have made a bit more effort birthday or otherwise.

The food was acceptable however seriously overpriced.

this place was a lovely surprise! looks very unassuming on the outside then you wander into a beautiful secret hideaway! went for the £15 set menu & there was more than enough food... breads, dips & olives...then a massive array of meats, more dips, falafel...followed by a huge cake stand with various sweet treats & mint tea! Wow... thought it was stunning. Nice relaxed atmosphere too. Def going back!

Ping Pong (South Bank)

Good place for dim sum if you can't make it to China Town for whatever reason (I am normally reluctant to recommend a non-China Town eaterie for dim sum so this is an exception!). Ping Pong is relatively pricey but it is very nice. The atmosphere is more chilled than a manic China Town restaurant and the pork puffs are always a winner. Just gotta remember not to over order next time. It is a lovely restaurant aestically and the acoustics are better than the one in Great Marlborough St.

Ok so pretty expensive but it is sushi & it is very, very good sushi. Highlights were the beautiful sashimi & melt in the mouth seafood tempura. The place is not exactly smart or comtemporary which I think is great. It was full of Japanese people which is a good sign. The service was excellent - we wiled away a couple of hours with no pressure to leave. Can't wait to go back!

Kazans Meze & Grill

Having read the reviews on this site I feel that there must be an "Emperor's New Clothes" thing going on. The food is very, very average. Despite it being a contemporary Turkish restaurant which I guess is pretty novel & the nice black & white pictures on the wall there is zero atmosphere in this place. We had the mixed hot meze for starters which was nice and I had chicken for my main. It was OK but I do not know what the fuss is about. For what it is, I think it is overpriced. Try it, you might like it but I very much doubt that I will go back.

Nando's (Tooting)

Never underestimate a Nando's. Cheap it maybe but it's bl**dy good for a fast food outlet. Peri peri chicken has got to be better than Chicken Cottage. The staff are cheery and you get that nice crushed ice for your bottomless soft drink. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving my curries in Tooting but for a change Nando's is a good value alternative (the only other decent restaurants for other cuisines in Tooting are Sette Bello for Italian & Rick's Cafe for Modern European). Anyway, I digress...Nando's is top notch and great for a cheap, tasty, quick bite to eat.

Vijaya Krishna (Tooting)

Oh dear re the last couple of reviews....I'm glad to say that I have had a completely different experience to the bad ones described. Last night was my third visit to this restaurant & everything was spot on. The service was impeccable and the food excellent (especially the Prawn Poori). Every time I've been here I've had a very enjoyable evening - I would highly recommend!!

Canteen (Spitalfields)

Went here for lunch and it was very good. Pleasant modern environment , service was friendly & efficient. Food was good - went for the lemon sole (the whole fish which I much prefer to a small fillet) followed by a yummy Eton Mess. Would definitely go again for a relatively quick meal which was good value for money.

I'd been to Nobu about a year ago and for some reason had though it snooty and the food unmemorable - may be I was having an off day! This time round, I had a fantastic experience! The lovely light and airy dining area set the scene for an amazing gastronomical event. The highlights of the meal were the the much raved about black cod (worth raving about), the soft shell crab with wasabi sauce, the wagyu foie gras gyozas, the excellent sashimi, the moreish rock was superb!! We over ordered by quite a lot - I knew this was going to happen despite the waitresses protest when she took our order - cheeky!

The staff were very friendly and showed the right amount of attentiveness. The only critcisms I would give, would be the fact that the tables were too close to each other...some guy's jacket was strewn behind me and his I'm sure very important business file was practically on my lap. Let's not forget this place is very pricey as it is without the "optional" 15% tip they slap on. Otherwise gold stars all round.

Patara (Oxford Circus)

Had lunch here and the food is well presented and quality is pretty good. The seabass in tamarind sauce was very tasty. Overall good but pretty expensive and nothing mindblowing.

Radha Krishna Bhavan

Fantastic - one of my favourites in Tooting. My usual is the impressive masala dosa, the excellent prawn dupiaza, with some chapatti or some buttery paratha. This is properly tasty food. Pretty good value and a great atmosphere. I personally like taking a seat by the life size green god.

Smollensky's on the Strand

There was a reason why this restaurant was near empty....My choice of the "Special" of the day - Red Snapper - with veg was an extremely disappointing choice. The fish had a worryingly fishy smell accompanied with a tough texture. The brocolli was overcooked. I can't stand a place that can't do decent veg. My friends' choices didn't look particualrly appetising either...With so many restaurant choices in the Covent Garden area why (oh why) of all places we had ended up here! Best avoided if possible!
