Monsoon Restaurant
The bad reviews seem rather unjustified - I found this place really nice, nice staff, friendly service, decent food. This is a decent, mid-range curry house, serving good Indian food and offering value for money.
The curry dishes we had were strangely similar to each other with only minor variations in recipe, but nonetheless tasty and substantial. The papart was really nice and crunchy.
At the end of the meal, the restaurant suddenly got busy, they *very* politely asked us if we could move to the adjacent table to finish our drinks, so they could make up a table for a party of six. We didn't complain, but they still offered us a beer on the house for the (minor) inconvenience! Now that is service - nowhere in London have I been offered a beer on the house before.
As for deserts - nearly every restaurant in London buys in deserts, so those photographic menus are typical of Brick Lane. If you want authentic Indian sweets like barfi or jalebi, go to Rusholme in Manchester. You won't get them in London.
This isn't a super-posh place, so don't go in expecting the greatest experience on earth. This is one of the better Brick Lane places, so give it a go.
