William Curley Dessert Bar

First heard of William Curley just before Valentine's Day 2008. Two years later, my now husband treated me to another WC treat !

A treat it was. The desserts looked and tasted rich and absolutely gorgeous without being heavy or leaving the average female feeling guilty about gorging on such gourment items !

The member of staff who tended to us was truly considerate and modified a mocha to my palate since I am intolerant to whole milk. What a gem ... needless to say the mocha was equally delightful !

Although the price tag was relatively high for a dessert in a 'café' setting, it was well worth it ! Quality not quantity ! Will definitely be back there soon !

Patisserie Valerie (Spitalfields)

Have been to the Spitalfields branch on a few occasions and each time the service gets worse ! Staff do not acknowledge the customer (sit-in) and are not aware who was first in the queue (take-away). On one occasion, my husband and I decided to leave after being 'ignored' for approximately 10-15 minutes (including time to be seated and choosing food). There does not seem to be a distinct shortage of staff at this branch but the management of the team seems apparently non-existent. Highly disppointing !

The quality of the cakes appear to vary but with the offerings presented from William Curley's bespoke desserts, it's hard not to compare ! The strawberry gateau is still ok though the Black Forest gateau chocolate sponge ... well, I would argue if it actually contains any cocoa ! However, it is cheaper than W Curley !!!

I would not decimate the Patisserie Valerie brand based on this particular branch but they need to up their game to compete with similar bakeries and cafés available.

The Page Pub and Thai Restaurant

Great location. Stayed for the food. Unimpressed ! Had a beef curry wiht rice. The beef was thin, over-cooked and therefore tough ! The sauce was overpowered by lemon grass and there were too many pieces of onion. My guest had a similar experience, citing overpowering flavours and the sauce being too sweet. Furthermore, for the quality of the food, it was rather pricey ! I would return for a drink but I would stay far away from the food !

Fish! Kitchen (Borough Market)

Seated at a terrace table on a warm summer's evening was lovely and better than being inside but negatively punctuated by a beggar ! Service of 'front-of-house' staff was varied and generally lukewarm. Delivery of our orders was prompt and (almost) everything was in good order and fresh. Fish! is certainly good value for money and is a place where fish lovers must visit !
