Frankie’s at Criterion

We took tourist friends there for lunch because it really is the most beautiful room in England - a real jewel. As usual, unfortunately, the food was uninspired. With no wine and only one or at most two courses each, no coffee, the cost was £200 for seven of us.

No point eating there when you can just have a coffee or cocktails at the tables in the front half and appreciate the beauty of the place that way, instead.

Made in Italy (Chelsea)

Whatever any of the poorer reviews may say, this place is ALWAYS packed. That says it all.

I eat there only about three or four times a year because it's not that near home and parking isn't easy. Their pizza is always excellent, antipasti good, pasta not to our taste. Service always so-so. Didn't know it had changed management but that explains the huge reduction in the different antipastis - there used to be a buffet table full of different ones, just like in Italy. That went some time ago, pity.

We recently introduced an Italian friend to this restaurant and he's been back several times already, always with some of his Italian friends. They stay for hours, at least three hours, never in any hurry and talking busily, so presumably don't mind the not-so-good service.
