Cafe Pasta

I was very pleasantly surprised! I went to Cafe Pasta not really expecting too much and left having all but licked my plate clean! My bowl of pasta was cooked well with the correct amount of sauce i.e. just coating the pasta and not swimming in sauce as seems to be the case at many other Italian restaurants. The food was tasty, arrived in good time and was well priced. It's not the sort of place where every morsel delights the tastebuds but it's definitely recommended for an easy, quick and satisfying dinner.

Wild Honey

I went for Sunday lunch at Wild Honey and found the food to be exquisite. We ate from the set menu which was very reasonably priced. My cauliflower soup was delicious - delicately frothy and light with a dash of honey at the centre which came as a tantalising surprise. My main course was slow-cooked belly pork - a dish which has become a bit of a restaurant benchmark of mine. Wild Honey delivered spectacularly - it was all I could do not to lick the plate clean! The dessert of vanilla pannacotta was the perfect conclusion to the meal. Although admittedly myself and my dining companion also choose some cheese from the well-stocked cheese board that had been tempting us throughout the course of our meal. I found the staff to be polite and attentive and the pace of our meal was steady and unhurried - just right for a leisurely Sunday afternoon. I have read some of the previous negative comments about the restaurant; however, I cannot fault it and look forward to a return visit very soon.

The Angel Curry Centre

Yet another great meal from the Angel Curry Centre! This place never fails to disappoint. Although the exterior is humble (and small - blink and you might walk straight past), the food you receive within is rich in quality and flavour. The place is unbeatable on it's food, friendly staff, value for money and the fact that you can take your own alcohol!

In response to a previous reviewer: sometimes service may seem slow in relation to the small number of people dining in the restaurant, but Angel Curry Centre does also have a take-away service which would cause their resources to be split over the two functions and therefore might cause delays to the restaurant service.

New World

New World is recommended for the novice dim sum eater. There is no menu here as such; that the waitresses push trollies containing the food around the restaurant floor means you get to see what you order before you order it. So those who can't tell their ha gau from their sui mai should find eating here a much less complicated experience. I wouldn't say that the dim sum here is the best in china town, but is it appetising. I went off-menu and ordered a plate of sea food ho fun - it was disappointingly bland and I had to add several lugs of soya sauce to it before it became in any way flavoursome. The whole experience was an enjoyable one though and the place is obviously very popular as the restaurant was full and it was necessary to queue (for a few minutes only) beforehand.

Ping Pong (Goodge St)

I had been warned that Ping Pong served westernised dim sum before we went. Although this was correct, but by no means did this make the food bad in the slightest - and where else can you get dim sum in the evenings? (apart from Yuautcha!) In fact, the dim sum was generally very, very good (the pastry on some of the steamed dim sum was sometimes a little stodgy) - although perhaps maybe my feelings about the food were bourne out of not expecting too much in the first place. We had a good time there though. The restaurant's namesake cocktail: Ping Pong, come very well recommended! I felt overall that the price we paid for the food, the drinks, the service and the surroundings was good value and I'm looking forward to my next visit soon.

Old China Hand

This is a charming little find in a corner of Clerkenwell. The menu contains a select number of items from which to choose. The dim sum dumplings are very special however - with brocolli and carrot infused pastries encasing delicious fillings. And unlike many dim sum restaurants these days, not dripping in grease. A little on the pricey side perhaps, but definitely worth a visit.

Smiths of Smithfield

For a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was certainly bustling. I found the starters menu was somewhat lacking (in comparison to my last visit a few years back where the range of starters was far more tempting) although generously proportioned. My main dish of belly pork was very tasty (although a little on the dry side and not helped by a bed of mash that was also a little on the dry side of perfect). The wine list was good and all in all it was an enjoyable evening and I would definitely return.

Levantine

My friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant; it was an enchanting little find of a place. The decor is beautiful: stepping into the establishment from a grotty Paddington street, you are whisked into another world; of meze, rose petals and belly dancers. The tables are rather packed in, but it all adds to the bustling atmosphere. The food is delicious, although on the pricey side. Levantine is a must-visit in an otherwise forgettable part of London.
