The Duke of Cambridge

Pleasant, backstreet Islington setting but bland, uninspiring food that is ludicrously overpriced. As one reviewer here said, the Duke of Cambridge has its heart in the right place, but organic doesn't have to mean tasteless. Stick to the organic beers in the bar part and eat somewhere else -- it's just a few minutes from Upper Street so there's plenty of choice.

Julie's Restaurant

This used to be a real favourite of mine. It's a beautiful, quirky space on a lovely, quiet street in Holland Park, perfect for drinks on the terrace on a summer evening. Sadly it's really taken a tumble. I went there last night with a friend, and the food was fine, but nothing more, and it is ludicrously overpriced. £17.50 for a small plate of liver and mash, and an eye-watering £7.50 for trifle in a tiny glass. The service was bumbling and incompetent -- the waiter even suggested rounding up our bill, as if the £11 service charge wasn't enough. Please do something about this Julie's! It looked like we were the only diners in the place -- maybe that's not such a huge surprise. Shame.
