Red Onion

This restaurant is a hidden gem. Romantic atmosphere (because of the exotic lamps), friendly service, wide menu, delicious food, and reasonable prices. And it's neither too full or too empty.

The only negative is that like at most restaurants, they tend to forget to bring the requested tap water until being reminded (they don't mind doing so though).

Da Paolo

This restaurant may be a hidden gem, but it's local to me. I've taken relatives here several times (last in March '06) and we very much enjoyed the food, house wine, service, and cozy authentic-Italian atmosphere. Not necessarily the very cheapest but good value. In fact it's of my two favourite Italian restaurants in London.

Papageno Restaurant

I had a great Friday evening here with a large group. The decor (along with sister restaurant SARASTRO) is my favourite in London -- fabulously flamboyant, absolutely unique. And to my pleasant surprise, the service was unbeatably friendly, attentative, and we were never rushed. My salmon meal was just fine and more than enough food. The set course menu cost was reasonable.

I look forward to coming back -- especially for special occasions, parties, or whenever I want a fun, special environment in what's already a buzzing part of town.
