What a find!! Tucked away on Cork Street in deepest darkest Mayfair!!

Lunched with friends on a Thursday lunch time.- very very tasty food!! It is is posh Mexican nosh well done. There were 4 of us and we told the waiter to help us as we were going to share. We had octupus ceviche, fish tacos, spicy meat taco, tuna with a splash of wonderful truffle oil, pork pibl, corn salad, ribeye, lamb cutlets, quinoa salad all were extremely tasty.

My only small criticism was that the waiter knew there was four of us and unfortunately didnt advise us that the taco's only came in three's - we would happily paid extra for another one!! and the same for the lamb cutlets!!

This is not an alternative to Tortilla or Benito's Hat - this is on the expensive side and more of a treat than a regular lunch time haunt!! Would like to back in the evening and have a few iced margaritas!!

Service was adequate, not the best but certainly not the worst!!

St Pancras Grand

I ate at St Pancras Grand last Friday lunch time with two colleagues prior to catching the Eurostar!! Firstly, I was very pleasantly surprised how stunning the dining room was, I felt as though I had stepped on the set of Mad Men – now where is my Old Fashioned!!

The menu was very tempting, nothing fancy but exactly what I was looking for. We started with a small seafood platter to share – this was more than enough for the 3 of us. It had a nice balance of shell fish – cockles, razor clams, oysters (only 2 though!!!) crab, lobster. It was good without being outstanding. My two colleagues had scallops for their main which they both enjoyed. I plumped for the fish and chips with mushy peas. The chips and mushy peas were good, as was the fish, but the batter was decidedly soggy!! Again overall it was good but not brilliant.

My only real complaint was the speed of service – it was really really slow!! The waiting staff were courteous and helpful but it was a bit too slow. We had to ask them to speed up as we had a train to catch at 14:30, we had been there from 12:30!!

I would definitely recommend calling in if you are catching a train, but sorry wouldn’t go out of my way to eat there!!

Chisou (Mayfair)

Fantastic quality!!

It is not the cheapest, but if you want cheap there is a Wasabi round the corner!!

I went for lunch on 17th February with a friend, the food was fabulous and reasonably priced!! I wanted to try everything on the menu!!

This is not a Brazilian BBQ or an American rib and steak joint, it is Jamie and Adam's take on a theme and it is done very well and without costing a fortune.

The room is large and buzzy which I personally like. The view I had of St Paul's was fantastic and my friend had the fun of watching the rest of the dining room.

I'm looking forward to going back with my wife in the very near future.

Busaba Eathai (Store St)

Love Busaba - the whole atmosphere is great, the staff are very helpful, if a little flaky sometimes, but always friendly!!

I love the fact you get to sit on tables with others it adds to the atmosphere and fun. it is definitely not a stuff restaurant, so if that is what you are looking for go elsewhere!!

The food is excellent - tasty flavoursome and nicely presented. Portions are on the small side so make sure you order a couple of sides if your hungry.

First went in Feb 2010 and been back loads of times and my kids just love it - even the the youngest who is 4!!!

Plateau Restaurant

Visited for the fist time this week, when I took business acquaintance for lunch.

My first impressions were good, excellent space that is bright but welcoming, with good views over Canary Wharf. The seating is a bit weird and awkward, but not uncomfortable.

The food is overpriced but quality was excellent, my scallops were perfectly cooked and sweet. this was followed by a beautifully simple dover sole. I wouldn't pay for it myself, but well it was on the exs after all!!

It is very businessy at lunch and not somewhere I would take the missus for lunch!!

Gaucho (City)

I love Gaucho, and this was my first visit to the chains City branch.

As usual the service was good, prompt without feeling rushed BUT the food was decidedly poor. My rib-eye steak was like cardboard and wafer thin!! The chips are definitely frozen (regardless what the waiting staff say!!), the grilled veg was grilled mush.

Unfortunately the Gaucho Chain is sliding slowly down hill, I now need to find a new favourite Steak House!!

Mango Tree

Had the pleasure of been taken to lunch at Mango Tree in May 2010.

The food was absolutely fantastic, beautifully balanced in flavours, presented beautifully and good portions. My only minor criticism was the price - it is not cheap!! But the food and service was excellent.

I will definitely be going back!!

Swan at the Globe

Firstly what a great location - views are great!!

I visited on Tuesday 8th Dec with a large group of people for a tour of the Theatre and set dinner in one of the private dinning rooms. The tour was excellent and got the evening off to a fantastic start, David the guide was excellent and knowlegeable.

I wasnt really expecting much as the catering at large group events tends to be mediocre at best. so I pleasantly suprised when the starter was very tasty and the following fillet of beef with tarragon crust was juicy, tasty and perfectly cooked. The accompanying roast new potatoes and roast baby carrots were fantastic and perfectly cooked. The dessert was apple crumble that was not memorable, however my minor disappointment was completely dispelled when the most fantastic cheese board was presented - one for each table - truly fantastic and already at room temperature.

Well done to all the staff at the Swan at the Globe - will definitely be back with my wife!!

Went there for dinner with a large group on Monday 7th Dec.

I had not been before and to be honest wouldn't have given it a second glance from the street. The entrance is not inviting, but dont let that put you off.

The food was surprisingly good, nothing exceptional but good nonetheless.

Baltic does really let its self down with the staff - they were too few and although not rude, they were definitely not engaging. The group I was with do enjoy a drop of wine and on several occasions we had to ask for our glasses to be topped up - a missed opportunity for them!!

Worth a look if your in the area, but not worth making the journey for

Visit with a large group of friends last night (19th August).

I have to say I was very impressed, the food was fresh and very tasty.

I started with the scallop which was delightfully sweet and well cooked, for my main the Icelandic Lamb was just perfect, the dessert was light and fresh. Add to this the other additional courses it was a very enjoyable evening.

The large group (12) did not create any problem for the kitchen and neither from what I could see the other dinners. All courses arrive at the same time, everything was hot - so well down to the kitchen!!

The dinning room is excellent, as is the service. The only minor downside, as mentioned else where is the toilets - they are located in the next door hotel, which just seems a littel 'dated'

Definitely going back

La Porte des Indes

I was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, but decided to go anyway as it was near work. It was better than I was expecting.

It is like a Tardis – as I entered I was wondering where the tables were, shown downstairs to a spectacular dining area. Quirky is the best way to describe it.

The menu looked good, not your usual high street chicken tikka massala etc. The food was okay, personally it could have been a bit spicier, but the flavours were good but not exceptional.

The staff were efficient and friendly.

Overall it was an okay experience and due to its convenience will probably go back.

Smiths of Smithfield Top Floor

My wife and I took her mother and father to SOS for a treat on 10th Feb.

We have been to the bar and the dinning room several times and once to the top floor. I raved about the choice of meat and the quality of service!!

We arrive a little early to be told that there was no longer a bar on the second floor as it has been turned into another eating area - seems that John Torode is only interested in making money now rather than creating an experience!!

When we went upstairs we were shown to our table - all okay so far!!

First disappointment was the selection of meat - 3 rump and one sirloin, mmm not a good start. I re-assured everyone that it would be good not to wo, rry!!

Starters arrived, well 3 at first then a short, but long enough wait, for me to say start before yours get cold!! My wifes squid was marginally over cooked making it slightly rubbery!! My foie gras was extremely underwhelming - and the marmalade was way overpowering. More like one of JT's contestants on Master Chef would turn out than a top London Restuarant!!

Well not to worry, JT would make it up with the meat. The room was almost full by now and waiting staff were hard to come by. How many times do you have to say "excuse me can you fill our wine glasses" Very very disappointing!!

Hurray the meat arrives - oh dear, the medium sirloin is more well done and looking rather lonely on the plate!! AGAIN only 3 dishes arrived - another short but noticable wait for the 3rd dish. The mash was just warm enough to eat, the vegs were how shall I put just courgettes - not a lot of variety!!

I could go on on, but I think you get the message - the 15 minute wait for the dessert order, the repeated requests for the bill and the lack of staff who seemed to be interested in you really just added to a very disappointing evening. I'm used to poor service in London, it is par for the course, but this really annoyed me, your paying top whack and expect to be treated better, so much so I asked for the service charge to be removed!!

Was looking forward to eating at Galvin's and I was not disappointed. It has a great atmosphere, friendly staff. The food was good without being fussy.

It is very reasonably priced - wine is not over priced!

We had to vacate by 8:15 so had our coffee downstairs in the bar and ended up staying until closing with no hassle at all from the staff.

Great night will definitely be back!!

Chaopraya Eat-Thai

Visited recently for lunch. First impressions were positive, Looked clean and fresh. We were seated downstairs - which is actually okay, albeit low ceilings.

The menu was pretty standard and reasonably priced. the service was just about right. The staff were neither friendly or unfriendly - just a little dis-interested!!

Food was average to good - nothing outstanding. If your at a looking for a decent Thai restaurant for lunch or quick dinner then this would be good. If your wanting to impress someone then look elsewhere.

Princess Garden of Mayfair

I had lunch at the Princess Garden 10th Dec with a colleague.

The food was excellent, albeit expensive. The dining room was very nice if a little stark and unwelcoming.

I would definitely go back as the food was excellent but only if someone else was paying!!

Loch Fyne (Covent Garden)

I went to Loch Fyne, Covent Garden with some colleagues last Friday.

To be honest I didn't know what to expect - i was pleasantly surprised!! The menu was not overly complicated!! The food I had was excellent. It is ideal for pre/post-theatre or somewhere to drop into with friends. This is definitely not Gordon Ramsay but is good honest, value for money food in a nice atmosphere.

The service was good, but there didn't appear to be enough of them.

I will be going back!!

C London

This is my second visit to Cipriani, last night it was with a group of 7 colleagues. This time it was a massive improvement!!

It is a stunning venue - staff are a bit quirky, knowledge of food and wine a bit questionable, but certainly friendly and accommodating!! We added an extra person at short notice and wasn't a problem!!

The food is expensive and quality is dependent upon what you choose - the last time I made poor selections, this time I got it right with the tuna tartar and grilled dover sole - both were absolutely perfect.

I can understand the mixed reviews as it is so dependent on what you select from the menu!!

My only real criticism is the entrance, which is a bit chaotic - the maitre de is right inside the door, right next to the bar and cloakroom. the door is a revolving door which makes it a bit comical gettinig in and out of the place!!

The Cinnamon Club

Myself and a colleague visited The Cinnamon Club for the first time for lunch on 18th Oct.

I had no idea what to expect, but was not disappointed!! This is not your usual high street Indian and certainly not high street prices!! And definitely not high street quality!!

Everything we had was fantastic absolutely no complaints!! The staff were friendly without being overbearing. The atmosphere was excellent a real mixture of people. This is miles better than Tamarind

This is not cheap £103 for 2 and that was with only two beers - but very much worth it!!

Locanda Locatelli

Eat there with some friends from work for the first time recently. I'm not a big fan of Italian food but was very pleasantly surprised. The Food was great - tasted superb and nicely presented.

The wine list extensive - not being an expert the sommiler was extremely helpful.

Staff in general were great - although our waiter didn't sell the specials very well!!

Overall very enjoyable, but is very pricey!! To be truthful wouldn't rush back unless someone else was paying!!!
