Having read a lot of the stridently negative reviews on this and other sites, I have to admit to being a little nervous about visiting Sakura for the first time, but reports of the excellent tempura and great value setto (set meals) made me take a chance, and I'm so glad I did!
Fantastic food - beautifully and simply presented - deivered promptly to the table with a characteristically Japanese total lack of fanfare. Both the manager and waiting staff were atypically no-nonsense and efficient, but also appreciative at being thanked and complimented in their native language. The atmosphere was completely authentic, as was the slightly ratty decor, making anyone who's eaten in the great little backstreet eateries in Japan feel right at home.
I give it a big thumbs up for anyone who appreciates authentic, simple, good value Japanese food, but it's definitely NOT a place for the restaurantophile who expects an ego-massage as a side dish!
