My boyfriend and I made reservations at Inn The Park for a dinner on Christmas Eve. I booked a table over the website and got a confirmation alright. The restaurant then called me several days later, asking to change our reservation as the last seating was to be at an earlier time than anticipated previously. No problem, we happily accommodated that request.
So it was to our utter disbelief that, when we arrived at Inn The Park on 24 December, the gentleman at the door said our reservation had been cancelled due to an "incident" in the kitchen. No other reason was offered and this one was not elaborated upon. He said he would have contacted us but he did not have or could not find our telephone number. Yet a few months previously I was called to change our reservation time. In addition to this, at least my email address should have been available to the reservations manager, as the initial booking was made through the website and met with a confirmation mail. When we enquired what we were to do with our festive evening, the receptionist offered to book us a table for another day with a complimentary bottle of champagne, but neither of us drinks champagne and we certainly were not willing to come back at that point. To say we were both disappointed and angry would be an understatement and we decided to leave instead of arguing.
Now, I understand unforeseen "incidents" can happen, but Inn The Park completely failed to handle the situation to even the most basic level of customer service expected of a quality dining establishment, especially seeing as they take a fee from customers who fail to cancel their reservations well in advance to the time they are due to come in. I sent an email to the restaurant when the anger had cooled down a bit days later, asking to explain in more detail what had happened that night. I am still waiting for a reply.
I am very disappointed in Inn The Park’s lack of customer care and am sorry to say that I am going to join the rows of people who were unhappy with their dining experience. I was certainly willing to give this establishment the benefit of the doubt after having read many bad reviews before booking a table myself, but must sadly admit that those reviewers must have funded their opinions on fully grounded facts.
