Eating out is about experience and with the good or bad of each experience the result is the lasting memory. Reputation is built or falls on each customer memory & how that is communicated to others.
I was going to write about how good this experience was, which it generally was, but instead I'm going to tell you about my lasting memory.
This was the £2 per person 'cover charge' added to the bill. What on earth is this for? We didn't even ask for or eat the bread & butter.
Honestly, when one pays over £200 for a meal for two (which we did) this charge seems so mean, so tightfisted that it is simply pathetic. This was on top of the £24 'discretionary' service charge, again automatically added to the bill.
This is like buying a £60k Porsche for the dealer to charge you £30 for a set of carpet mats. One would expect these allowed for as part of the premium service.
This is the first time that I have encountered such penny pinching and certainly not in restaurants with much smaller price tags.
So get a grip Scotts. Work out exactly how much this affects your profits over a year. Find out that it is negligible and drop this silly charge.
It leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
