Clos Maggiore

I went with my wife pre-theatre on a toptable deal.

The service was excellent throughout. The food was truly excellent. My wife thought it the best meal she had had for years.

The set menu was very limited - 3 starters (no vegetarian option 1 fish) and 3 main courses (1 vegetarian and no fish) so if you are a vegetarian or non-meat eater you might want to check the menu before sitting down.

The deal included a glass of champagne but they offered us a very pleasant campagne cocktail as an alternative.

The wine list is excellent but there ar few cheap options and wine by the glass is also expensive.

The piped music was a bit loud to start with but soon became less intrusive as the restaurant filled up which it did by 6.00pm (always a good sign). Anyway it was good Jazz so only a minor criticism.

We booked for 5.30pm and only just made the theatre by 7.30pm -it was fairly close. I would recommend booking for 5.00pm for 7.30pm theatre.

I would and have already recommended this place to anyone who likes French/Modern european cooking and I would definitely go again.

Total for 2 = £84 representing good value for a restaurant of this class with such excellent food. Obviously eating later off the set menu would probably be in the order of £130+ for 2.

Sofra (Covent Garden)

We have been here quite often because the food is usually good and always good value.

The service varies from acceptable to really bad as can be gathered from other reviews - bit of a problem if you are in a hurry.

The last time we went we sat next to two staff who were smoking and obviously had decided to take a break even though the restaurant was busy.

I still like the food but will probably not go again for while.

Bank Westminster

I went for my Birthday early Saturday evening with my family.

We took advantage of the Champagne and Lobster both on special offer and had a memorable meal for a very reasonable price.

The restaurant is light, airy and spacious and the service was professional and friendly.

The wine list was extensive with a wide range of choice at various prices.

It's not particularly cheap a la carte and the set menu looked a bit limited but for the meals we enjoyed it was very good value and I would certainly go again.

Look out for their special offers.

Andrew Edmunds

I went with my son on Sunday last - early evening. The food was good and the service was good enough.

The place itself is a bit too cosy but fortunately it was fairly empty when we went. I would imagine it could get quite noisy when full.

The wine list seemed rather limited too me esp. in the cheaper range-very little choice under £20.

Overall it was reasonbly good value for the standard of food which was good enough for me to want to go there again.
