Original Lahore Kebab House

Went here last evening for the first time despite having lived in London for nearly ten years. This is the original Lahore Kebab House. Had heard legendary stories but never got round to going. Went with family friends who professed to having been going there for the past twenty years.

The restaurant is basically a canteen. It is not very clean or sophisticated or trendy. But the food is excellent and very very good value. The starters, in my opinion, and anything coming out of the clay tandoor is excellent. Particularly the sheesh kebabs and the hot naans. The main courses were also very good but unfortunately too spicy for me to handle and somewhat over-oily. The desserts are not great if you are accustomed to Indian desserts. A great and very "atmospheric"/authentic place for a group of friends pre going out.

After meeting friends at the Sanderson (a few blocks away) we, quite by chance, ended up at Yauatcha. We got there twenty minutes before the kitchen closed and asked the waitress to order a varied selection for the four of us. The selection turned out to be absolutely perfect (in terms of quantity and variety) and delicious. I normally only eat dim sum at Royal China (most Sundays). Yautcha is just a little better than Royal China and therefore in my view absolutely excellent. It is however moderately more pricey so will not be there every week but certainly for those spoiling occassions. Highly recommended.
