The Jolly Gardeners
I would just like to say congratulations to the owners of the Jolly Gardeners at Earlsfield for doing such a terrific job on creating a gem of a pub. They have just put the finishing touches to the bar area at the front and it looks and feels great. Smart and chic without ever being pompous or overstated.
I was there for dinner last week and the food was lovely. I had the fillet steak; it was done to perfection. I should take this opportunity to say thank you to the chef responsible for this: Zoltan, the steak was great as was the choccy sticky pudding serviced with homemade ice cream.
Talking of home made, apparently JG's are fans of making their own ingredients. I understand they make their own pasta, bread, humous, ice cream to name a few. Hats off to the kitchen, shows that they are serious about the food they serve.
I have been there in the summer as the garden out back makes for a great escape. Walk through the pub and out the back you will find a fabulous little sun trap, perfect place to soak up some summer sunshine with a drink in hand. Their wine list offers a great range of different labels from around the world so there is something for every taste as well as budget! If on the other hand you prefer to sink a beer there is a range of traditional and continental beers and lagers to choose from.
So, if you find yourself coming out of Earlsfield station and fancy heading off to the pub after a hard day at work, I would recommend the 5 minute walk up Garratt Lane (rather than fall in to the places just on the doorstep to the station) to discover this little hideaway.
I would consider it my local only I live 8 miles away.
