I went to Hakkasan for my brother's 30th birthday for the first time and I can say, it'll certainly be the last!!!!
I had bought a small cake for his birthday to be shared amongst 12 of us who had already committed to the set meal (which already included desserts) - bill amounted to 97 pounds each.
I asked the hostess if she would mind arranging it to be served as a surprise at the end of the night and she refused saying that if it wanted to be served then it would be at a cost of 5 pounds PER PERSON ie 60 pounds!!!!
I couldn't believe her inflexibility when i expressed my disappointment at such a well known, expensive restaurant being well so stingy! She proceeded to telling me that Hakkasan is a restaurant and it aims to make money. She should also be aware that a restaurant is a SERVICE to serve customers who it should try to keep happy. If it fails to do this, then customers won't return.
In all my life and all of the birthdays this has never been a problem. I am quite disgusted at how such a customer-unfriendly focus can be taken by a restaurant that claims to be top in London.
As for the set menu the dim sum was quite uninspirational and certainly some more modest rivals in china town do a better job. The chicken satay was definitely tasty but the venison was just too rich.
Desserts were mediocre at best and similarly to Yauatcha they look nice but they're nothing special.
Overall food was OK and service pretty bad. For almost 100 pounds per person, there are certainly better places to go
