The Meat Co (Westfield)

This place is not the greatest, but then it's not as bad as some make out. I think it is becoming fashionable to knock this place a tad more than is deserved.

Food - Average quality which means 5/10.

Service - Pretty good, actually. The staff where very friendly and helpful and looked after us.

Atmosphere - Hardens gives it the lowest rating which is strange as I have eaten in far worse atmospheric places. I would give it 7/10. What is slightly off putting is being able to see into the toilets washbasin area from the dining hall!

Value for money - It is rather expensive for what you get, which is a shame. If they charged 30% less then it would be close to what it is worth. Therefore, 4/10

Strand Tandoori

Had Lamb Tikka Masala. Lamb was not very tender but ok enough. Too much sauce to meat ratio! Naan bread was above average.

Food - 5/10

Service - 5/10

Bombay Palace

Dined here last night. Average is how I would describe this joint, in terms of both food and value for money. The decor is not as bad as some say, but the chairs are uncomfortable and do not work well as ones to dine on.

Food - 5/10 (portions larger than has been suggested by some)

Service - 7/10

Atmospshere - 5/10 (bad fitting chairs and drab pot plants)

Value-for-money - 5/10

Would I return? Well, not out of choice as there are so many other Indian resturants to try in London that you need to be way above average if you want repeat customers.

North China

Food - Very tasty. Well cooked and presented.

Atmosphere - Relaxing. Freindly. Peaceful.

Service - Perfect. One of the best I have experinced. Staff friendly and very chatty when taking payment.

Price - Not very expensive. Good value.

Chinese food is not my favourite but this place is the best Chinese retuarnat I have been to in London. Harden's - stick this one in your top 5 next year!

Not great. Beef Curry was very watery. However, atmosphere was lively and service pretty good.

Rasoi

Fancy food, nice taste and texture. Just, it does seem a little too fussy. If you like 'proper' indian food then do not come here. If you fancy something different then give it a go. However, even for a Western influenced joint, this place is not the best in London.

Churchill Arms

Just got back from this eatery. Ok - I have to be honest. The food was pretty good, especially for the price. However, the rice was a little hard and the vegatables and meat were crudely cut.

The service was lacking in helpfulness and politeness. When I asked if I could have a pint of Stella in a straight glass I was told "no". When we asked if we could have noodles with a dish instead of rice, we were told "no" (yes, it is a set menu but they could surely have done this!"). We were told that the green curry would not be that spicy - it was! Also, when I booked this table at 6pm I was told that I could have a table for 8.30 but would have to leave at 9.30. When we paid for the bill without a tip the reciept was thumped down on the table with no eye contact! I was planning to leave a tip in cash but I decided then and there that they did not deserve one. Perhaps this place is cashing in on it's 3rd placing for thai huts in Harden's. Judging on tonights service, they do not deserve any praise at all.

Tip - smile and try and be helpful. No one owes you a living!

For the price this has to be one of the best Thai places in London. Tasty and cooked well. Good atmpsphere too. Less than £20 for 2 meals.

Marcus

Dined here last night.

I had the lobster and pigs trotters for starter, my wife had the tuna and artichokes. Both were cooked well and full of flavour.

For the main I had the veal and my wife the suckling pig. The pig was very tender and the crackling succulent, though perhaps a little greasy. The veal was cooked pink and delicious. The mushrooms and snails were finely chopped but undistinguishable from one another - a slight problem, as I like snails but am not keen on mushrooms!

For desert I had the raspberry gateaux slices and Eton mess - perfect. My wife had peanut parfait - good, too.

Lots of extras brought to the table in between meals. I would say 8 1/2 out of ten for food, but as this is not possible I will give them a 9!

Service - almost faultless, never in your face but always there. What stops it getting 10 for me is that one waitress rudely hushed away her colleague (the guy who held the platter) which I found unnecessary.

Atmosphere - A nice modern and relaxed feel.

A bottle of £32 red and two coffees brought the bill to around £220.

I had asked for tap water and got a bottle of Evian - not good, but perhaps they did not hear me right. However, we got a couple of glasses of champagne which they missed off the bill - only discovered this in the taxi home!

The Ritz Restaurant

Dined agaiin last night. The atmosphere was lovely. It was busier than last time and so the service was not quite as attentive, but still good. The food is not the very best you can get for the price but is still very good. Great place for romancing someone.

Restaurant Gordon Ramsay

Dined here last night with 3 friends.

I have to say that it is the best meal I have ever had at a resturant -

Starter - Pan-fried Scottish scallops with a millefeuille of potato, parmesan veloute and truffle 8/10.

Main - Barbary duck, cooked pink and with lovely flavour, served with creamed savoy cabbage, chestnuts, beetroot, turnips, black trumpet mushrooms and Madeira jus 10/10

Desert - Granny Smith parfait with honeycomb, bitter chocolate and champagne foam. Amazing - 10/10

Plenty of extras and great wine

£167 per head, but worth the treat.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen (West Hampstead)

Not really sure what the point of this place is. Cheese burger and chips are the sort of thing you eat as a snack or after a heavy night on the town. This place tries to make burger eating an experience and do not do a great job at it anyway!

Trying to make burger and chips posh is as ridiculous as opening up a chain of fancy and over-priced breakfast cafes.

If you want proper food try the many different types of food from all over the world that London restuarantrs offer; just don not visit an American lard hut!

Chez Bruce

Dined here the other night. I had heard great thngs about this place and so my expectations were high. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. The food was perhaps the best I have ever had at a restaurant - and I do dine quite a bit nowadays.

The service was exceptional and the sommelier was very knowledgable; the wine list goes on for about 30 pages!

I will definately dine here again.

Sukho

Went here on valentine's day and it was jam packed - as were the tables! I do hope they do not normally squeeze everyone into such tiny spaces. However, apart from this, I really enjoyed the meal. It was perhaps a little too spicy but I have not tasted better in London. The staff were run off theri feet but very polite and helpful.

I will go again.

Mint Leaf

We went with the 50% off deal.

The food was excellent - one of the best I have tried anywhere, and I have been to a few. I was surprised; I had heard some bad things about this place!

The lobster and sea bass was very good, even if not typical Indian dishes!

The service was good and the atmosphere was pretty good too.

Will come again.

Busaba Eathai (Store St)

I have been here a few times. The food is very good, but certainly not one of the best in London - don't believe the hype!

The service is fair enough, though you do feel like you are being rushed at the end.

I like the busy atmosphere, but be prepared to be squeezed in next to fellow diners.

Golden Hind

It can be no coincidence that virtually everyone on here has given this place top marks. I originate from Hull - a fishing port - and have not tasted better fish there. The only place I can think of which may have surpassed Golden Hind is a place a visitied years ago in Whitby; a place know for it's sea food.

Staff are very friendly - great atmosphere, too.

The Ritz Restaurant

It was a few weeks now since I dined at this place and as my memory is poor at the best of times I will not try and remember every little detail in terms of what I ate.

What I will say, however, is that I thoroughly enjoyed the food and would recommend this place. Yes, it is very expensive and for the food alone, perhaps not worth the money. Having said that my starter - duck egg and fois gras - was superb. So was my main course - sea bass and snails.

Service was a delight as were the surroundings.

A few people have criticised The Ritz, but I can only say good things. Perhaps I got lucky.

The Devonshire by Gordon Ramsay

8 of us dined here today and we all tried different meals. Pretty much all of us enjoyed our meals apart from me. Perhaps I am too fussy or just a littler more discerning; the latter, I think!

I had soup for starters which was not bad, but nothing special. For the main I had neck of lamb which was presented nicely enough but again did little to wow me. For desert I tried the chocolate sponge and ice cream. This was better but looked as though it may have come out of a packet an hour earlier.

I have to comment on the mash potato. I thought it was pretty awful. It was too creamy and had no texture. It could have been smash for all I know!

I have had better food at places half the price. Gordon, why are you buying these gastro pubs - they are not the future, mate!
