Village East

Amongst the nicest venues out there.

Excellent decor, both airy and intimate at the same time, and also nicely lit.

The staff are superb too. Polite, friendly and very trendy (beautiful person place - but nice with it)

Now the food was a bit schizophrenic. i loved the fact that they had a set Valentines vegetarian menu, and this helped with the speedy efficient service.

The truffle mousse was delightful - the sort of stuff one wants at a restaurant, but he aubergine tart was awful. The main of roasted vegetables and corn meal (forgot the fancy name for it) was more-ish but not really exceptional. The dessert was also pretty average.

I must say that the effort to make an interesting vegetarian menu has to be commended, especially over 5 courses.

I will return to Village East, because I'm certain they will have more hits than misses. in any event it is a lovely place to go and eat.

I went to Lanes in 2006 for Valentines at fairly short notice. i spoke to the excellent staff and said I was vegetarian. Far from fainting at that notion, the girl I spoke to gave me the menu by e-mail ,and said she'll get the chef to add another vegetarian option - making it 3 vegetarian options out of 7.

That superb attitude, service and care lead to my fiance getting her office to book her company Christmas meal there.

The service is young and friendly without a snooty air, and it was fast. The service is only bettered by the Savoy Grill - where the waiters are telepathic!

The atmosphere appears austere at first, but is in fact quite warm and intimate, and anyone should feel at home there.

I love this restaurant, and writing the review makes me want to go back
