Tampopo

We went to Tampopo a while ago and it was fine - we did lunch and were the only people there!

We went back last night, but this time the place was absolutely rammed! We got one of the last free tables, and had grilled prawns and gyoza for starters, both absolutely fine (maybe a little too much salt on the gyoza?). Then a Tom Yum (a coconut and lime leaf noodle soup) and a Vietnamese spicy prawn and rice dish (the name of which escapes me). Chuck in a couple of cokes and beers and the bill came to £42 including service which seemed ok to me.

Although we were there for a pre-film supper (and the service was fast enough not to cause us any problems, though we had given ourselves over an hour to eat) most of the other diners were clearly there because they liked the place. And there was a fair queue of people waiting for a table!

Eco

More importantly, if you live out west, there's a new Eco restaurant in Chiswick! We have eaten there twice (we're starved of decent pizza in Chiswick) and I'm happy to report that the pizzas are every bit as good here as they are at the Clapham restaurant.

While there, we ran into another ex South London couple and they agreed that Eco Chiswick is a great event - they really do the best pizze in London.

Any down side? Well, it has the same crazy bent plywood interior, so it can get really noisy as there seem to be more young families in Chiswick than in Clapham... And as they've only been open a week or so, service is a little chaotic and slow, but they're getting better.
