WOW! We were a party of 5 at Fig yesterday and what an exquisit experience it was. The small restaurant was full and vibrant, service was spot on and the food need to be spoken of in details. I must confess that I have been at fig more than once and I have truly enjoyed it every time.
For starter we tried the langoustine with olive oil ice cream, pig cheeks and monkfish cheeks, and the white bean and button onion veloute, all extremely tasty and deliciously presented. Chris always surprises with the ingredients he puts together, all very geniously thought of. For main 2 of us had cod on beetroot with smoked horseradish and liquorice, 1 had onglet beef with caramelized onions and smoked bonemarrow and 2 had baked celeriac with black truffle and burnt hay sauce. As one in the party said "oh my god, I have no words"! I had the cod and I have never tasted such a fantastic combination of flavours. It was sublime. All dishes again were beautifully represented, generous portions and all extremely well balanced. Beautiful wines as well, we had an albarino to go with our starters, a beautiful pinot noir "Kathy Lynsky" and a "Nine Popes" with our mains.
Now desserts! Amongst us was a true dessert lover and he was over the moon. I am more a cheese lover but I had to surrender. We shared all 4 on the menu and they were all exquisit.
I honestly don't think you will find a better neighborhood restaurant where the staff knows your name even after 1 visit and there is sincereness in their smiles.
