This place is excellent. My husband and I often make the trek from south london just to get some of these fabulous tacos. This is definitely not Tex-Mex or Californian Mexican, this is really Mexican cafe food. We've been many times and taken many friends and everyone always loves it. The food is wonderful, the margaritas are fabulous, and they are one of the few places to offer my husband's favourite Mexican beer - Negro Modelo. The service is always great and they don't laugh at you when you make a go at pronouncing the names. They also have a nice selection of authentic spices and harina masa etc to buy so you can try your luck at home. And I really love those spicy pumpkin seeds they bring you when you arrive.

Definitely worth the trip, even if you don't live too locally.

Alba Pizzeria

This is one of our favourite local places to go. We've been going pretty regularly for 3 years and the pizza is consistently fabulous. The wait staff change very frequently but are always friendly and the two guys who run the restaurant are always floating around somewhere making sure everything is okay.

Get a couple of pizzas (they're all good), a green salad and a pitchet of red wine and you're set for an excellent meal at an incredibly reasonable price. Good for takeaways too.

Sappho Meze Bar

This is one of those places you probably wouldn't go, or even notice, if someone hadn't recommended it to you. Which is how we originally ended up there, but we've been back many times since, in big groups and small and the food is always consistently good and the service always consistently friendly. Everyone we've ever taken has loved it. The family who run the restaurant are very friendly and chatty with normally the dad or the daughter waiting on you and telling you about each of the huge range of dishes they serve for a set price of £9.50. The first time we went we thought we were finished after the first couple of rounds of food, but it turned out we hadn't even had the main course yet! Everything is homemade and fresh.

Most of the food is vegetarian with meat main courses (or vegetarian options) so is great for everyone. A really refreshing experience to go to a family run restaurant rather than another marketing-run chain. Just remember to take cash.
