Babylon at The Roof Gardens

Went here to my sister's birthday on a Saturday afternoon, and the first thing that impresses before any food hits the table is the setting: The main dining room extends out onto a balcony with a sprawling view of London, with many visible landmarks. On a sunny day this really is something else.

As for the food, this was easily as remarkable as the view. The 3 course lunch menu features classics such as eggs benedict, omelette Arnold Bennett and battered plaice, with vanilla panna cotta, creme caramel and (to my delight) knickerbocker glory making an appearance on the desset menu - all were prepared and presented beautifully. The only minor culinary complaint was the aged steak, which was quite sinewy even when rare or medium.

Service was great, the prices excellent (£19.50 for 3 delicious courses) and the atmosphere very pleasant. Can't really recommend this place enough: everyone should try Babylon at least once.
