Mermaids Tail

Visited here yesterday and thought this place was amazing!!!

Walked by earlier in the day and it was empty.

Walked by at 7pm and it was 70% full... Thinking this place must be tourist trap, but with the Wife fancying Steak we went in.

The service and food was amazing. Sirloin steaks at £21 each was pricey, but cooked to perfection. The additionals at £2.50 each, were also good (Chips, Fries, Mash, Veggies)

The hands on service here was what made things really good.

Expensive, but worth it.

The Brilliant Restaurant

Visited "The Brilliant" as I was meeting customers arriving in Heathrow for a 5 hour stop over gap and decided to take them here.

Service was good and attentive - Just right.

Food was excellent - Starter and main dish were succulent and tasty. Rice was average, but the Nan was really nice. The dips were unusual but also nice.

The only thing that really got me was that when I opened up my Napkin from its rolled state it was full of dust!!! So much to the point that I actually coughed!!!

However, I did leave feeling a little disapointed as my expectations from this being on Ramsays top 2010 restaurants were very high and the experience just did not meet that level of expectation.

Still good though.

This place really tries... and suceeds.

On the last 3 visits (Through August 2010-October 2010) I have noticed a much better, friendlier service from the waiters.

However, out of two of the three visits, the food was well below par!!! Swings and Roundabouts I guess?

Rainforest Cafe

What a rip-off!!!

OK at first you are taken in by the shop enterance which is OK if you have small kids that like moving fake snakes and crocs. All the rubbish they have is over-priced. Although the variety is huge.

Dont even bother going downstairs to the "Rester... Place they microwave stuff" Its poor quality and tasteless for what you have to pay.

Great idea... rubbish execution.

I can see why this place gets so many mixed reviews.

We waited and got served with an attitude, however the table next to us were treated like royalty.

The experience of eating out and trying something new was really horrible here and asking what certain things are before you order is an absolute NO NO!!!

I will stick to the Golden Eagle in the future.

Satay Malaysia

A manky lttle place that looks more like a cafe. The food is average for this type of cuisine, but its not overly expensive for the area.

The soup I had last week was fire-tounge hot though.

Cafe Rouge (Southgate)

A mixed bag here with regard to service. On occasions has been slow, but on others has been pretty good.

As a regular the food is good and always tastes to the same standard, so you know what you are going to get.

I like it!!!

Nando's (Wood Green)

This is Nando's at its best...

Its a cut above Mcdonalds, Burger King, KFC etc... and serves food that it just what it is supposed to be. Good, reasonable and tasty. The atmosphere is great and lively. The service can be slow when busy, but is mostly good.

A great place to go for a slap up meal. Nothing fancy, but still...

Efes Restaurant

My parents took me here in my teens. It was my first experience of a real restaurant. I loved it.

Years later the experience is the same. In fact everything is the same. Its almost like stepping back in time. The decor especially.

Lucky its a good place with great food.

Visited this place with my Wife, as some friends said it was the best Greek resteraunt in North London.

Food = Mostly Sub-standard, Fish was good though. Quantity and not Quality.

Service = Very Sub-standard, customers seem to be a serious pain in the backside to the waiters.

Atmosphere = That of a backstreet greasy spoon cafe.

Value for Money = Exempt from the current economic crisis. Ordered a £12.50 bottle of wine. They bought and poured a completely different bottle. When I bought this to their attention, they said the bottle they bought out was only £1 more expensive and asked me to pay for it. I said no, eventually they said they would charge me £12.50 for the £1 more expensive wine. The bill arrived and we were charged £14.50 for the bottle of wine. They deducted £2 from the bill... and I tipped them £2 for making me laugh.

This place is right at the end of my road. I have been going on and off for many years, and my opinion is on and off each time I visit.

Popped in for a takeaway Doner Kebab (My least favorite kebab) and it was Delicious. It was not processed factory meat, but in house made. I was not even drunk when I ate it.

Went back a week later for the Meze with a friend and was disapointed. Started off great with all the dips, but not enough Pida bread. We then moved tables, as they wanted to seat a party of 4 people where we were sat. During the move we lost our half eaten Meze dips. Everything else was fine until the Lamb dish came along. What a sorry excuse for a peice of cooked meat!!! Nothing but bone, grissle and tough as old boots.

Waiter was a hoot. He even cracked a great joke about charging us extra for using the ink in his pen when we used it to write a few things down.

Smiths of Smithfield

I took my wife here on 08.07.08 to celebrate our 2 year wedding anniversary. Had recently visited in April this year with a work colleague. I was not sure how my wife would react to being taken here on our anniversary, as I suspect she would have wanted to go somewhere a bit more swanky.

We ate in the wine room and I again enjoyed it... and so did my wife. Starter - Crab dish and Mushroom dish - OK. Main - Rump Steaks - cooked to perfection. Desserts - Apple cake & Custard - Great.

Staff - when we informed the red haired girl who seemed to be running things that our baby sitter had called to say our baby daughter was continuously crying, they sped dessert and the bill up for us - excellent.

Smiths of Smithfield

Went here with a work colleague about 3 weeks ago. It was the first time I had been and was not dissapointed.

We had reservations at the bar in the wine room, which I thought was weird at first (Never eaten at this bar or any other before) however it was entertaining to watch the helpfull staff cook and serve up various cocktails.

We had Eggs Royal for a starter, the portion was enormous, enough for a main meal. If it was not so nice I would have left some.

Our Sirloin steaks were just perfection, cooked exactly as we wanted and as they should be for a medium rare and rare steak. The meat was juicy and tender.

The Chocolate browny dessert, fantastic!!!

The two members of staff behind the bar were very helpful. The girl making up the cocktails seemed very professional and seeing her make up these wonderful drinks only made us order more. The young man cooking the food behind the bar (Very novel) was very helpful and was a joy to watch.

A good experience, nice atmosphere, helpful staff. I would go back.
