I have to admit that I was put off Roast by many of the negative reviews, both on this site and in the press. But I finally visited on Sunday, after peering at the restaurant each week when I visit the market.
I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised. The building is beautiful and airy, although the air-conditioning was possibly a little cold, the food was lovely, as was the wine, and the service I couldn't fault - attentive, friendly staff. The portion size was also extremely generous - the chicken salad I had to start was almost large enough for a main course.
All in all a really good experience - maybe with Roast they have now ironed out the problems they encountered to start. I shall definitely be returning.

Had an absolutely appalling meal here last Friday. Six of us were squashed into a table for four although the restuarant was not busy. Service was really slow and rude. Only a couple of our party had starters but the staff demanded why the rest of us didn't want starters and that we should have them. The main course for one person did not appear and it then transpired that it had never been ordered. When we got the bill his main dish had been removed but his side order of chips (£5) was still on the bill. When we raised this we were told that we were still going to be charged for them as they arrived at the correct time - we pointed out that the chips were a side order and should come the same time as the main course and that he had to either eat them by themselves or let them get cold whilst he waited for his main dish to be cooked. This was met with the response that 'we were pushing our luck and that it was not Hush's policy to take items off the bill anyway'. The manager said that as a gesture of good will she would take the (optional) 12.5% service charge off the bill but that we would still have to pay for the chips. Absolutely ridiculous, really overpriced average food and shocking service. I will only recommend this place as somewhere NEVER to visit. A shame as the courtyard is lovely. Go to Rocket every time instead.
