We are two couples who visit our local restaurants in search of gastronomic excellence. On Sunday the 25th May, our party of four returned to The Boxwood Café for a second treat, our first having been at the beginning of this year when everything was perfect but that was not to be replicated on this occasion. The ambience and service were weighted just right which makes a visit most enjoyable.
For our first course we ordered two Onion Soup’s, one Potted Salt Beef Brisket and one Salmon and Caviar Croque Monsieur and each of us were delighted with our choice. Things were rather different with the main course which consisted of three Grilled Black Angus rib-eye Steaks’ and one Veal and Foie Gras Burger together with various Side Salads and Vegetables. The Steak’s were not cooked as ordered and two of our party actually swapped plates twice because they believed that they had been given the wrong meals. My wife returned her Steak to have it cooked for longer and one Steak meal was left uneaten. We all agreed that the food had been over salted, a complaint that extended to cover not only the Main Dishes but also the Side Salads and Vegetables.
During our meal we were drinking both Sparkling and Still Water but on two occasions the waiter’s topped up our glasses with the wrong water. For deserts we had one Marinated Pineapple and Passion Fruit with a Mango and Campari Sorbet, one Home-made Ice Cream, one Cherry pie with Peanut Crumble and Peanut Parfait and one Warm sugared Doughnut’s with Coffee Milkshake. Only the Doughnut’s were disappointing and the dish was promptly exchanged for an alternative. All together a pleasant evening but not as good as it was a few months ago.
