Sophie's Steakhouse
A consistently great restaurant, which does the best steak and mashed potato in London.
It does get busy and the tables can be a little bit cramped, but this isn't supposed to be fine dining, so I can't really see it as a negative
They steaks are really excellent - good quality meat cooked perfectly. What more can you ask for?! And the puddings are also very good.
The wine list is also worth a mention - reasonably priced, good selection and there is always the cocktail list for an aperitif...

Magdalen
This has to be if not the best, then one of the top 3 restaurants in London. It is as close to faultless as any restaurant I've eaten in.
The room is simple and lovely, the food is extraordinarily good and the wine list is a lesson to other restaurants in not being greedy with mark ups
I've been telling all my friends to eat here and the only negative thing I've heard anyone say is that they have paper tablecloths (although it makes sense if you have any of the dishes to share)
And if that is the only thing anyone can find wrong with somewhere, then it has to be pretty damn good! I can't recommend this place highly enough

Lamberts
Consistently excellent. We've eaten here a number of times, including as a big group and we've never been disappointed
I can see how less adventerous diners might feel out of their comfort zone with the menu, but anyone who appreciates good quality ingredients and skilled cooking will really enjoy it here.
The wine list is really good and avoids the big names in favour of less well-known but good value bottles. The service is also spot on. The stafff really know their stuff, but aren't in your face or stuffy
We really love this place and pound for pound, it has to be one of the best value restaurants in London.
