What a fantastic experience! My husband took me to Gordon Ramsay, Royal Hospital Road, for an anniversary treat, having been talking about a previous visit he made (about 7 years ago) for a while. We made it to Claridges a couple of years ago (also fantastic) but he really wanted me to experience Gordon Ramsay's flagship restaurant. The pressure was on as there was a lot to live up to but it still exceeded all my expectations and we were both a bit concerned that Mr Ramsay might be spreading himself a little too thinly with all his global ventures these days.
We should not have worried. We were made to feel special by all the staff from the moment we arrived and while nothing was rushed, our every need was attended to quickly by a very friendly team.
We decided against the tasting menu as several dishes on the a la carte menu had already caught our eye (I had the red mullet - simply superb and the John Dory with crab and my husband opted for the signature lobster ravioli followed by monkfish both of which were incredible together with our very own apple tarte tatin for sharing). However, by the time we'd been treated to canapes, amuse-bouche (chilled spring vegetable consomme), pre-dessert (creme brulee with pears) and petit fours (the most fabulous strawberry ice cream coated in white chocolate), we found we'd clocked up 8 courses anyway!
It wasn't cheap but was worth every penny of our £270 bill (including service and wine) and all I can say is I can't wait to go back!
