maze
Went to Maze last night with my partner for my birthday and had the 7 course tasting menu (£60 each). The food was amazing and I thought that the chilled pea soup with the parmesan parfait was excellent as well as the Shetland cod with tripe and pigs trotters. The service I thought was pretty good, however we had to wait around 20 minutes for the first of our desserts. When the staff realised this they were horrified. So they gave us a free glass of dessert wine, free digestif's and coffee with petit fours. Also they lit a candle and gave me a chocolate cake for my birthday. Overall an excellent experience. Not cheap but fantastic for special occasions.

Searcy's at the Royal Opera House
Went to the opera on Friday where the restaurant had Don Carlo (a long opera) with a special menu. I had Vietnamese Summer Lobster Roll which was nice but a bit measly with the lobster and totally filled with veg. My partner had ham hock terrine which seemed the tasty and was the better option. For mains I had Roast Pollack which was excellantly cooked and my partner seared tuna but agreed was very nice. We ordered sides of tomato salad and parmesan and rocket salad. The tomato salad wasn't great but the rocket salad was well prepared. For dessert I had Neal's yard cheeses (generous portions and my partner Chocolate pave which she enjoyed. Washed down with a reasonable white rioja (however the wine list can escalate steeply. Overall the bill came to £122 including service. I thought my starter was overpriced but overall a good place to eat if you are visting the Royal Opera House. Ther service is speedily efficient (as it has to be due to the nature of the building) but always pleasant.
