The Olive

This place opened last year and seems to be doing well. Have been there twice now and enjoyed the experience both times. Your typical Turkish menu but very nice and a good selection, also a inexpensive wine list.

Starter of Courgette and Feta fritter was nice and main of Grilled Sword steak was nicer. Table outside are also nice on a sunny day. I will be returning.

Caribbean Scene Family

Visited here on a Sunday night without a reservation and had good time. It was my first experience with a Caribbean restaurant and food too really. Service was really good and attentive. It was a lively atmosphere with music and there was a big birthday booking who all were obviously enjoying themselves. I had Jerk chicken starter and Ackee and Salfish main, they were both really nice. My partner had Vegetable soup starter which was ok, and Chicken stew which was very nice. We will be returning for a friendly, casual and tasty experience.

Il Castelletto

Italian food....not for Italians!

My partner and I visited for lunch on a Saturday. There were about 4 other tables occupied, service was neither good nor bad but not particularly friendly. The restaurant itself looked ok but the décor could be reworked. All that can be overlooked if the food was something special. Unfortunately it was not good, Lasagne was like supermarket microwave meal. No layers of Pasta and hardly any meat, lots of cheese though. My partners pasta dish was also very mediocre and overcooked. However, I did hear some girls requesting the recipe for a sauce....I should have ordered that!

Los Locos

Went here on a 50% off deal so can't complain.

Arrived for reservation of 2 and was told to wait at bar until other person arrived. This would have been ok but girl at bar would not let me put drink on table bill, could not use card as below £10.00 and card machine located in restaurant not working. Ventured outside to find machine but gave up, returned and asked to have my table so I could order a drink. Maybe not worth mentioning but still an annoying process.

We both got different Enchiladas and they were ok...especially as they were £6 rather then £12! Nothing special and service was a bit slow.

Probably a better place to go when you are doing cocktails and drinks rather then focusing on the food. Would return for more happy hour jugs and nachos.

Cafe Mode (Endell St)

4 of us recently tried Cafe Mode for the first time. We all enjoyed ourselves, the staff were all friendly and we all enjoyed our food,

I had Calamari to start which was tasty yet not greasy or chewy. Four Seasons pizza was very good! The others had burgers and pasta and were all happy with their choices...I tasted them too and agreed.

I will be returning to sample more of their pizza's and relaxed style of service.

Porters English Restaurant

Went here on a 2 for 1 deal...thankfully! Service was good enough and atmosphere/decor ok.

Was looking forward to trying their 'famous pies' I think that must be self proclaimed! I got the mixed game in redcurrant sauce with puff pastry and mash. The mash was very nice, but the pie was a dissapointment. SO much puff pastry but not enough filling. The filling itself was ok but nothing memorable, my partner had the sirloin beef roast, sirloin was quite nice but the roast potatoes were soft and not crispy at all.

Starters were breaded mushrooms with a blue cheese sauce and Tomato soup. both were better then the mains.....but being 2 for 1 can't complain.

The place was quite busy on the Sunday night but won't be returning or recommending.

Strada (New Burlington St)

This was my first visit to a Strada. It is a large space with an old Tudor style interior. Visited early around 5:30pm, they were very quite but started to fill up by the time we left.

The owner/lady was quite abrupt to both myself and my partner. She warmed up though possibly once we seemed surprised by her attitude.

I had Mozarella in Carozza as a starter which was quite nice. The Pizza main was very good, a very enjoyable pizza! My partner had pasta with meatballs, this was quite nice but the sauce a little bland. Was much better after some parmesan and a touch of salt.

Did enjoy and would return again.

Petch Sayam Thai Restaurant

Have been here 3 times this year and had a great experience everytime! This place has been busy each time but still the service is efficient. The staff are always excellent, friendly and attentive to the perfect level.

The food has always been great, possibly too much choice on the menu but only an issue for indecisive people like me. Food always seems fresh and very flavoursome. House wines are only £11.95 and are good.

This is my new favourite Thai and it is obvious that many customers are happy too!

Singburi

I was recommended this place but was a bit disappointed. The food was mediocre, service was good and atmosphere ok. A really basic looking place, which would have been ok if food impressed.

It may have just been the night as the place obviously had a lots of return customers and they seemed pleased.

I had a much more enjoyable time at Petch Sayam further up the road! I may give this place another chance though.

Petch Sayam Thai Restaurant

Had a great meal here! Was recommended Singburi which is further down the road, but I enjoyed this place much more.

Extremely good service the night we were there, genuinely friendly, attentive but not too much. The food was really good, I had just returned from Thailand so I was hoping for something impressive. We had the house white which was fine.

The restaurant was busy and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. I am very please to have found a great local Thai!

Terra

I went here after seeing all the good reviews on here. Maybe my expectations were to high but I was a little disappointed. I did have a lovely evening but probably would not return.

I went here with my partner for his birthday. The table was set up with balloons which was really nice. And at the end a piece of cake with a candle was brought out....nice cake too.

The waitress we had was excellent but I was not blown away by the food. We had 3 starters: The tiger prawns starter was ok but prawns were too small, the Halloumi and tomato starter was also quite nice,The chargrilled goats cheese was very good though!

For main course we had the lamb burgers and chicken and Halloumi skewers. We both aggreed The chicken was the nicer of the two, but the garlic sauce it was in was not garlic enough for me. We spent £83 for 3 starters, 2 mains, 3 bottles of wine and 2 liquors.

The Soho Bar

Booked an area here. The Mosaic Aquamarina that is supposed to seat 15+ people comfortably......not quite.

We all had a very good time as the main focus was to drink not eat. The service and atmosphere was good. Ordered the Metro platter to share but it was not very nice. The cheese garlic bread was soft and the cheese tasted off. The wedges were not cooked properly. You don't expect too much with these sorts of platters but it is not hard to get it right!

Overall though it was a good night just wouldn't recomment the food.

West End Kitchen

I love this place!! Have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. Not fine dining at all just a casual, cheap place with very quick service! The service is nothing special but never any complaints. I think they have 2 or 3 wines on the menu but they are very nice, even the house wines are fine.

Nice selection of starters (Mozarella in Carozza is always nice £2 i think) and main meals are always a very decent size!

So much better then the The Stockpot, which it is often compared to.

Hare and Tortoise (Bloomsbury)

I used to work close by and have been here about 5 times. I have never had any problems at all. The place does get very busy and you may have to queue to get in. The main attraction of this place is cheap but really nice food served quickly. The service is nothing special and is never particularly friendly but besides that I would definately recommend a visit!

Da Mario

I have been here twice now and both times have been a great experience. It is a small place so you need to book. Even though it is small the tables are not squashed together.

The service has always been good, attentive but not too much. Great italian food and if you are on a budget the house red is perfectly fine! Will return again.
