Enoteca Turi

I went there the other day with a friend. Among other delicious things, I ate a dish of squid, samphire, potatoes and olives that was just about the nicest thing I have eaten for years. Beautifully simple. Exquisitely executed.

I found this place on the internet when desperately looking (on the day) for somewhere to take my wife for a birthday lunch. We went for the tasting menu, which I would heartily recommend and the sommelier's choice of wine to go with each course. The food was excellent. The wines were beautifully matched and included some unusual choices I would not naturally have come to but would try again.

Atmosphere is quietly smart. Tables are well spaced. At lunch there were a couple of quietish business tables and some couples (including one impossibly grand and moneyed-looking octogenarian couple). Definitely not a showy, businessy place.

Service was fantastic - the right balance between formal and warm. Attentive but not too much so.

It is not cheap at all but you can spend considerably more for food and wine and an experience of that quality. I liked it so much that I have been back twice in the few months since I first went. I would go again tomorrow, and the day after (if I could afford it!)
