Mangal Ocakbasi

The Mangal remains excellent at producing meat, salads and bread - for lunch or dinner I have to say it is still very good value for money - a friend recently turned up her nose when I said we were going for a kebab - but changed her opinion totally have eaten tasty meat, salad and bread they presented us with - these guys would Kebab your hand on thier grill if you left it still long enough and it would taste fantastic.

The waiters maintain their dignity at all times and clearly enjoy the contempt with which they from time to time they treat us customers, but so what, it adds to the atomsphere and at these prices and quality - it is fair game. This is a top Turkish cafe and if you want fawning upon go somewhere else

Rules

Four for Sunday lunch to celebrate Peter B's birthday, my first time in the establishment. Rules cocktail an excellent recovery aid to begin any Sunday lunch. Starters appreciated by all - iron age pork, crab, potted shrimps - proper comfort food. The main courses were good but the fore rib of beef for two was excellent - this is a Sunday roast as it should be, a fine cut of meat served simply but well. I remain to be convinced about the Yorkshire pudding hat but it ate well. The wine list was reasonable to pricey, we poor few were however able to select a gargle or three that went down well. Puddings, these were merely excess by now but some did demand, good choices but the creme brulee was.... well okay but by this time no offence could surely be taken. We all enjoyed the atomsphere and surroundings - perhaps the event promoted a historic perspective and plenty to read around the establishment. The service was most welcoming, attentive and helpful - a real bonus which complemented a good meal. Not cheap but we all agreed worth it and a further visit.
